What is SpeakEasy Tbilisi

SpeakEasy Tbilisi is an English-speaking club founded by Tom Nash, a certified TEFL instructor. Our mission is to provide an affordable, effective way for non-native speakers to practice and improve their English skills — without the pressure of traditional classrooms.

The name “SpeakEasy” is a play on words. Historically, a speakeasy was a hidden bar during Prohibition in the U.S. — a place where people quietly gathered to connect, talk, and unwind. We’ve reimagined that for modern-day Tbilisi: a relaxed, welcoming space where people can speak easily in English.

At SpeakEasy Tbilisi, we focus on real conversation, cultural exchange, and building confidence through connection — not textbooks. Whether you’re preparing for a job, traveling abroad, or just want to meet interesting people, this is a space where your voice matters.

Our Story

A few years ago, I visited Tbilisi for the first time — and I fell in love with the city. The people, the energy, the culture — it left a lasting impression. But one thing stood out more than anything else: how many people told me they wanted to improve their English skills.

That’s why I started ESC Tbilisi — an English Speaking Club built to help people practice in a low-cost, friendly, and flexible way. We focus on real conversations with non-native speakers, so members can grow their confidence week by week, both online and in-person.

In 2024, I met Jamshid Karimi through a language exchange platform. We quickly realized we shared the same vision. Jamshid is a CERTA-certified English teacher with over 9 years of experience helping learners of all levels. We’re now partnering to bring structured learning and natural speaking practice together in one place.
